John SCOGGIN & Lydia TAYLOR

John SCOGGIN was the 8th (we think) child of Isaac and Sarah SCOGGIN. He was born about 1818 perhaps in Madison Co.IL or perhaps in TN. If it was in TN then we are not sure where in TN he was born; it might have been Eastern or Middle TN as there were several families by that name around White County about that time. He died in 1895 in Hardeman Co. TN (where he last appeared in the census).
He and his wife(died 1884)along with some children are burried in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Hardeman Co TN. (on the greave markers the name is spelled SCOGGINS even though his mothers grave marker in TX does not add the 's' It appears that this is one of the places ((with those who remained in TN while the others moved to TX or ARK)the family name took on another spelling. The census record for this county for 1880 are so damaged it is hard to find him. I know of no published index to it at this time and it would be a vital piece of information. He should also appear int he 1890 census of Hardeman Co TN.

By the time he married on March 20, 1837 Lydia Taylor (born 1814 in NC, perhaps Rowan Co?) he was in Hardeman Co TN near the southwestern tip of the state. Several other SCOGGINs were married in that county within a few years. John and Lydia had at least 11 children

We find John "Doc" SCOGGIN in the census:
1850 as HH Hardeman Co.TN
1860 as HH Hardeman Co.TN
1870 as HH Hardeman Co.TN
1880 in Hardeman CO. TN in the 18th Civil District, family # 224
A substitue for the 1890 census has not yet been located but likely living with family as wife passed away in 1884

NOTES:
The asertion that this John was a child of Sarah and Issac is a bit speculative. While there is no record as of yet to definitively establish John as a son of Isaac and Sarah SCOGGIN there exists enough evidence to allow for that possiblity. These rational are based on location, time frame, and family patterns.
In TN John marries and lives in close proximity of locale and time to several other children of Sarah and Isaac including some proven. This is one place the proposed DNA study of SCOGGIN family groups would make a big difference.
