Geroge Washington SCOGGIN & Lucy C. McDOUGAL



George Washington SCOGGIN was the 4th child of Stephen SCOGGIN and Martha Welch. He was born in Hardeman Co. TN in 1837, and died in Independence Co ARK November 18, 1926.

George W SCOGGIN was and active ole coot. He outlived 4 wives. The first was a Rachael Elizabeth McDOUGAL whom he married December 29, 1865 in Independence Co ARK. Next he married her cousin Lucy Catherine McDOUGAL on August 09, 1875 in the neighboring county of Jackson in ARK. Then on February 20, 1892 he married Emma Pritchard. His fourth (but not necessarily in that order) wife was a lady named Martha (we think).

We find George in the records of the Baptist Church in Independence (batesville) and in the new church established at Union Hill.

Lucy Catherine McDOUGAL was the daughter of William McDOUGAL and Nanny F BARNES. She was born on July 29, 1859 in ARK and died February 21, 1891 in Independence Co ARK.

1870 in the HH of William McDOUGAL in Jackson Co ARK.
1880 in the HH of G W SCOGGIN in Independence Co ARK.

There are 12 children listed at one time or the other in the census records. I would take some figuring to attach each child to the correct mother. It is known that William left the home because of conflict with a new bride of his his fathers.
